In one of the most sensational and blockbuster accusations ever uttered in the history American politics, Republican Presidential front runner Donald Trump made the stunning claim that Ted Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz met with infamous JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald just moments before the crime of the century and the death of a sitting American president went down.
“You know, his father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being, uh, you know, shot.” Donald Trump said during an interview on Fox News this morning.
Donald Trump was making reference to a National Enquirer story claiming that Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, was the mystery man photographed with Oswald as they handed out literature for the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, a pro-Castro communist front group that Oswald was entangled in.
While this might seem like a vicious and unsubstantiated accusation, further lending credibility to the claim made by many in the media that Donald Trump is not fit to be President, I tried to untangle the web of lies regarding Lee Harvey Oswald and Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz y Díaz.
Rafael Cruz was born in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1939. His father, Rafael Cruz, was a salesman for RCA, originally from the Canary Islands, Spain. His mother, Emilia Laudelina Díaz, was a teacher.
Cruz joined with Fidel Castro during Cuban revolution as a teenager and “suffered beatings and imprisonment for protesting the oppressive regime” of dictator Fulgencio Batista.
Rafael Cruz enrolled at the age of 17 at the University of Santiago in September 1956. According to Cruz, as a teenager, he “didn’t know Castro was a Communist.” Cruz has stated in interviews that he was jailed by Batista for several days in June or July 1957 and after he was released he applied and was accepted by the University of Texas in August 1957. He obtained a student visa after an attorney for the family bribed a Batista official to grant him an exit permit.
Cruz said he left with $100 sewn into his underwear taking a two day bus ride to the University of Texas, arriving with little or no English.
During my recent visit to the Dallas / Fort Worth Texas area, I conducted my own investigation of the Kennedy assassination and found no credible link to Rafael Cruz to the JFK’s alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
Libertarian writer Lee Enochs in Dallas / Fort Worth during a recent trip to investigate the Kennedy assassination.
During this trip to Dallas, I visited once again, the Texas School Book Depository, now known as the Dallas County Administration Building, is a seven-floor building facing Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, United States.
The building is most notable for its connection to the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. An employee, Lee Harvey Oswald, shot and killed the president from a sixth floor window on the building’s southeastern corner. The structure is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. It is located at 411 Elm Street on the northwest corner of Elm and North Houston Streets, at the western end of downtown.
While I Highly Doubt the “Lone Gunman” Theory that conjectures that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the Assassination of JFK, I do not believe Ted Cruz’s Father had anything to do with the crime
I also visited the infamous “grassy knoll” part of Dealey Plaza is a small, sloping hill inside the plaza that became well-known following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The knoll was above Kennedy and to his right (west and north) during the assassination on November 22, 1963.
This north grassy knoll is bounded by the former Texas School Book Depository building along the Elm Street abutment side street to the northeast, Elm Street and a sidewalk to the south, a parking lot to the north and east and a railroad bridge atop the triple underpass convergence of Commerce, Main and Elm streets to the west.
During my investigation, I learned that in 1964, the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald acted alone in assassinating Kennedy, firing three shots. This conclusion was supported by previous investigations carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service, and Dallas Police Department.
Despite forensic, ballistic, and eyewitness evidence supporting the lone gunman theory, public opinion polls taken over the years have shown that most Americans believe that Oswald did not act alone, but conspired with others to kill the president, and the assassination has spawned numerous conspiracy theories.
In 1979, the House Select Committee on Assassinations concluded that Oswald fired the shots that killed Kennedy, but differed from previous investigations in concluding that “scientific acoustical evidence establishes a high probability that two gunmen fired at President John F. Kennedy.”
In attempting to investigate the matter of Rafael Cruz and Lee Harvey Oswald, there is no credible evidence that the two men knew each other and met in the moments leading up Kennedy’s assassination.
In attacking Ted Cruz by associating his father with the notorious assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, Donald Trump is guilty of using the logical fallacy known as a “Red Herring,” arguing for something he knows is false but has the ability to mislead and distract an audience from the substantive issues facing America.
